見えない穴を、ふさいでもらった日

孫のゲーム機なんだけど。It's about my grandson's game console.

穴を自分で見つけて、本当に入れるか試して、ふさぐ。そこまでぜんぶ、一人でやるんだって。It finds the hole by itself, tests whether it can really get in, and patches it. All of that, on its own.

ふさぐまで? おれが何もしなくても?Patches it too? Without me doing a thing?

ただし、最初に配られたのは、守る側の人たちにだけ。But at first it only went to the defenders.

守る側って?Defenders?

泥棒より先に穴を見つけて、ふさぐのが仕事の人。Google が『この人たちなら』って決めた相手に、二週間前から渡してる。The ones whose job is finding holes before the thieves do, and closing them. Google picked the ones it trusts and handed it over two weeks ago.

じゃあ、おれには?So what about me?

ふつうの人向けにも、有料で使えるようになった。きみの契約でも使えるよ。Regular users can now get paid access too. Your subscription includes it.

よし、このゲーム機のプログラムを調べる準備もできた。『泥棒が入れる穴がないか、見つけて、試して、ふさいで』。All right, I've set it up so it can inspect the console's software. 'Find any hole a thief could use. Test it. Patch it.'

見つけた、って言ってる。『ここから、孫の名前が入ってるところまで入れました』。It says it found one. 'From here, I was able to reach where your grandson's name is kept.'

『試しに入ってみました』って。'I went in to test it,' it says.

待って。ふさいだのは、見つかった穴だけだよ。Hold on. It only patched the hole it found.

あるかどうかは、見つかるまで分からない。Nobody knows until one turns up.

……それも、そうね。...Well. That's true.

じゃあ、どうやって入ったのか教えてもらって、次はおれが探す。『どうやって入ったの?』Then I'll get it to tell me how it got in, and next time I'll find the hole myself. 'How did you get in?'

……『それはお答えできません』だって。...'I can't answer that,' it says.

泥棒にも使える話だから、断ったのかもね。ふつうの人向けには、危ない頼みを断る歯止めがある。Maybe it refused because a thief could use the same answer. The version for regular users has safeguards against dangerous requests.

じゃあ、誰になら教えるの?Then who does it tell?

さっきの、守る側の人たち。Google が信用した相手には、穴を調べるときの歯止めを外して渡してる。Those defenders. Google gives the ones it trusts a version with the cyber safeguards removed, so they can investigate and patch the holes.

……おれは、信用されてない。...So I'm not trusted.
